LAGOS

Lagos is an historical town on the Algarve founded in 1364 with walls protecting the old town dating from the 16th century. It was the capital of the Algarve between 1404 and 1755 and now is the regions 3rd largest city. A fortress dating back to the 17th century houses an exhibition of the Portuguese Discoveries. The slave market, the oldest in Portugal is now used as an art gallery.
Today Lagos is a prosperous, lively town offering something to all age groups. The old town is a warren of cobbled streets hosting a variety of restaurants, cafés and bars specialising in international cuisine and traditional fish dishes.
A working harbour sees local fishermen emptying their catch daily, whilst the picturesque marina is a popular mooring for yachts and pleasure craft.
